Baselworld 2012 – meet the Ronde de Monte-Carlo

When inspiration and innovation form the seed of a nouvelle horlogerie, the Ronde de Monte-Carlo is conceived. stunningly refined with a very well rounded and harmonious case, the Ronde de Monte-Carlo is classically yet elegantly styled while safeguarding the distinctive Ateliers deMonaco identity. Thanks to the use of the latest materials and productions techniques, the movement produces High Precision Performance (HPP) at a frequency of 4 Hrz. It is this use of modern technology that we have contrasted against the tradition of individual hand finishing that creates the hybrid that gives our collections its unique look and feel.

Ronde de Monte-Carlo - 18K rose gold, polished bezel grey dial

Technical specifications – the automatic centre seconds bi-directional winding 4 Hrz movement, has curved chamfered decoration on bridges, the iconic 18K gold hand engraved rotor and a silicium escapement to enable the movements precision. The case diameter is 39mm and a height of 11mm. The case is build on a titanium core on which 30 18K gold individual components are attached, thus allowing for the perfect piece by piece contrasting brush and polishing finish. The multi layered lozenge engraved dial has several layers of lacquer applied to allow for a vibrancy and depth as light reflect on the surface. As with all our watches, they come with a personalized hand-stitched alligator straps and an 18K gold adjustable folding buckle.

Beyond the artistic vision of a new and original masterpiece, men and know-how are at the heart of our creations, stamped with Bienfacture and excellence. Innovation is our standard and is firmly rooted leveraging latest generation of technology combined with age-old watchmaking works of art. We place great emphasis on the development of new patent applications and or design registrations as well as for the quest to use new materials. At the same time we are proud ambassadors of Geneva’s incomparable tradition and expertise in the art of watchmaking.

Over the next week, we will try to use our Blog to give also those who are not able see us life in basel, the opportunity to get to know the brand, its philosophy and review the collection and our novelties! Although many people are of and on helping out in our booth, the technical team and proud fathers of the watch designs and innovation at display are…

The innovative driving forces behind the brand - Manuel Da Silva Matos & Pim Koeslag

For those not yet familiar with the brand, Ateliers deMonaco is a young independent high end watch manufacture based in Monaco. Inspired by the people, scenery and creative heritage of the region, the brand targets a new generation with Nouvelle horlogerie by creating iconic timepieces that are derived from their passion to challenge existing conventions to leave a legacy: “We have always dreamt about making a mechanical movement that is the most precise in the world and will keep generations of scientist busy trying to figure out how we dit it!” With the core motto in mind that life is not about luxury, but luxury sure is life, Ateliers deMonaco is proud to design & manufacture their watches and its movements completely in-house, while the parts are produced either in-house or sun contracted to the best swiss suppliers – a strategy that guarantees the highest possible quality.

GENEVA WATCH RETAILING HAS A NEW KID ON THE BLOCK

Watch retailing in Geneva has a new kid on the block with grand aspirations: MAVERICK. Perfectly located on the ground floor of the Grand Hotel Kempinski on the shores of the lake Geneva, this beautiful new boutique is an initiative fostered by Alexis and Gerard Gouten that brings together in one place the prestige of the great names of traditional watchmaking with modern creations of (often independent) brands.

Outside view of the boutique in hotel Kempinski Geneva

“By definition, MAVERICK means to be independent, courageous, have a spirit of non-conventional, non-conformist, think and act differently. It is precisely in this spirit that we wanted to open a place of reference in Geneva for modern and international reputable watch retailing” said Alexis Gouten.

The proud initiators - Gerard, Alexis and Marie-Pierre Gouten

Against the flow of mono brand boutiques started by some of the big brands, MAVERICK aims to offer a well diversified selection targeted at watch fans who have exceeded the fetishism of the “big brand” and want strong emotions, bespoke offerings and unparalleled quality on their wrist.

Inside the Boutique

MAVERICK Geneva promises to be the experimental laboratory which will test the paths of rebirth for a watch more substantial and more authentic.

Opening night

The boutique carries the full collection of ATELIERS DEMONACO, as the brand is also trying to start and appeal to this new movement of people that do not want to confirm or settle for the dominance of the mass. And we hope not by accident, the first watch sold in the boutique: ATELIERS DEMONACO Quantieme Perpetual Calendar with EZ-Adjust system!

Ateliers deMonaco recognized during GTE 2012

The Geneva Time exhibition is held from 15 – 20 January in the Espace Hippomène in Geneve, the watch exhibition dedicated to those few and independent craftsmen that still master the art of making time.

Highlight of the show so far was the recognition that our QP-EZ-Adjust was voted among the best 3 watches during the GTE Superwatch awards. “The QP is our own in-house developed and patented Perpetual Calendar with EaZy adjust system – with one simple push on the crown you can change the function between time – date – day – week- month and year, and if you have found the mode you want to change, simply turn the crown and adjust. This innovation will make something very cumbersome, very manageable for even the most technically challenged – EZ!” as stated by a proud Pim Koeslag, Master watchmaker at Ateliers deMonaco

QP EZ-Adjust Titanium

“It is exciting to see that true innovation and simplification is brought into the world of high end complications again, and this new Perpetual calendar is among the best in years” as stated by a jury member.

A good start of the year!

Update from Top Marques Monaco 2011

March/April has been action pact for the Ateliers deMonaco team, but has also been extremely exciting as we have had a tremendous amount of press coverage and exciting & enthusiastic reactions on our latest additions to the collection. We launched the Quantieme Perpetual Calendar with the EaZy-Adjust system during Basel, and we also had a little surprise during last week’s Top Marques luxury fair in our own backyard: The Grimaldi forum in Monaco.

Over 33,000 visitors crossed the threshold for the April 2011 show, up almost 10% on last year – no surprise with the quantity and caliber of exhibitors continuing to push the limits. This included ourselves, as we officially launched our entrance in the female high-end watch segment with La Sirene. Both the watch and the overwhelming positive reactions have been a surprise to many, including ourselves!

And like every year, The Prince went out of his way to catch up with the team, see the latest additions to the collection, including being the firs to officially admire the with  blue Topaz gemstone studded 18K white gold La Sirene.

We will keep you posted and will give you the inside scope when we have the official ceremony with the future Princess!

Baselworld 2011 – The wrap-up

This year Basel was very special for us and an un-believable positive and rewarding experience. Only the second year we are present, yet this time with a big display area in the Hall of inspiration together with our fellow Independent brands and importantly a full line-up of 21 watches, spanning 4 different collections and price points!

impression of the Basel exposition space

Basel was the official launch of our Perpetual Calendar with Eazy-Adjust system: no matter how long you have not worn your watch, with an easy click on the crown you can independently adjust date, day, week, month and time. The magnitude of the innovation did not go un-noticed as only after one day, the buzz of our Perpetual Calendar was going around in basel and many people visited our stand spontaneous, making our Basel hectic, sometimes chaotic, but above all very, very rewarding and exciting!

display revealing The Perpetual calendar EZ-adjust

With 4 people running the booth 24/7 we thought we were richly staffed yet there was not a lot of time for relaxation during the day….we did however manage to  make a picture of Pim and Manuel having a break! Are we becoming too soft… :-)

the infamous technical driving force behind the brand - Manuel & Pim

Thanks to the team and all that helped us make Basel 2011 such a success. We look forward to an extremely exciting year ahead. Next up will be Top Marques (April 14-17 2011) – the super luxury car and watch show in the Grimaldi forum in Monaco. As always we use our Alma Mater to have some big news on the brand…..in the next couple of days we will give you the scope!
